Gynaecological Scans

A comprehensive examination to examine the uterus and ovaries for those with menstrual disorders, heavy periods, post-menopausal bleeding, a family history of ovarian cancer or pelvic discomfort.

Scanning can identify fibroids (benign muscle thickening in the womb), ovarian cysts and ensure intra-uterine contraceptive devices (also called "coils") are in the correct place.

Infertility Scans

Identifying the most fertile part of the menstrual cycle is important for those couples experiencing difficulty in starting a family. By performing several scans through a single menstrual cycle from day 10 to day 18  the process of ovulation can be monitored.

These investigations often require a trans-vaginal scan, where a small scan probe (like a tampon) is inserted into the vagina to obtain the highest quality imaging detail. The need for this would be discussed at the time of the scan.
